Last month I got to offer a ‘life planning’ workshop to a group of students in their last year of college. I brought the material I used for my 2-day “Reboot Camp”, and since my allotted time was 4 hours, I planned to hit the high points and allow time for them to do a few exercises. Eight hours later, they were still soaking up everything I could offer! It was an assignment dear to my heart, and reminded me how much a course in “How to Deliberately Create a Good Life” would have helped me when I was that age.
Of course, the sequence of steps is useful for us all, no matter what our stage of life. And, since research has clearly shown the correlation between writing down goals and accomplishing them, I invite you to take a few minutes right now and write down what you truly want to accomplish. And if you’re resistant to setting ‘goals’, just write down your dominant intentions. What do you intend to BE, DO, or HAVE?
Then, use these steps to achieve your intentions:
- COMMIT. Are you willing to make the commitment to BE, DO, or HAVE what you intend, even if it means you must change?
- EXPAND YOUR AWARENESS. Are you willing to learn and change?
- CREATE A VISION. What will you envision for yourself and others? (Remember: All you have created in your life, began in your mind.)
- CREATE SPACE. What will you release in order to make room for new things to come into your life? What no longer serves you?
- TRUST. How will you cultivate faith that your intention will manifest?
A new year holds the promise of new beginnings for us all, and I hope these steps will help guide you to a prosperous and happy year!

“I was in a tough spot in my business, and I didn’t have a clear idea about the direction I should take. In my very first conversation with Coach Cobb, I had a “light bulb moment” and saw the way out of my dilemma. Her coaching gave me the structure I needed, and decisions became a lot easier to make. And once I got on the right path, I could feel myself moving forward with more enthusiasm and motivation than at any other time in my life.”
