Comfort zones feel safe and cozy.  They can also limit our lives and keep us stuck.  Where do you feel stuck?  Answer that, and you’ll see where you’ve locked yourself into a viewpoint that no longer serves you.  And if you find yourself in an endless loop of analyzing options, it’s likely not options that you need.  You need a fresh perspective!  As my gift to you, here are some tips that have proven helpful for others:

  • CHAMPIONS THINK LESS.  Did you know that top athletes actually think fewer thoughts per day than the average person?  The average person has 2,000-3,000 thoughts a day;  the champion has 1,100-1,200!  By narrowing their focus and eliminating 30-40% of scattered thinking, they reach goals.  The good news is that we all have this capability…with practice. Try it yourself by setting one small achievable goal and focusing your thoughts on that one goal for one day…or one hour!.  Discipline yourself and allow no distractions!  Even if it’s for one afternoon, you’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish!
  • THINK “B” TO “A”  Champions clearly envision the outcome they want, complete with sensory details.  From that mental and sensory vantage point, they then “look back” and identify the exact steps that got them there.  Finally, they narrowly focus only on those 3-5 crucial elements that got them to “B” and they include what they will not do!  (e.g.“I eliminated alcohol and sugar” ).  For example, take some quiet time to really envision the outcome you want most for one holiday party.  Then, write down the high level steps that created that exact outcome.

If you’re still using an “A to B” approach when trying to achieve goals, you’re probably consistently overwhelming yourself.  Consider using these tools instead.  Ditch the complexity that drains energy and keeps you stuck.

The key to moving forward in any area of your life, is to think differently.  And these tools will provide the necessary structure to keep you moving forward.
