My mom and dad loved sentimental sayings and corny jokes. In fact, my brother and I would roll our eyes at those jokes and sayings. Now, all these years later, I cherish those sentimentalities. After all, I am who I am because of them. Years ago, my mom gave me a tiny 1/8th’x 1.5” x 3” block of wood, wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper and tied carefully with double “curly” ribbons. Attached to the ribbon was a plain white 2×2 notecard that read:
This is a very special gift
That you can never see.
The reason it’s so special is
It’s just for you from me.
Whenever you are lonely
Or even feeling blue,
You only have to hold this gift
And know I think of you.
You never can unwrap it.
Please leave the ribbon tied.
Just hold it close to your heart.
It’s filled with love inside.
I saved this tiny gift, but it lived in my drawer for decades. Perhaps you’ll join me in making your own tiny gift to pass along to someone you love.
