Years ago, as I sat listening to speaker after speaker at yet another conference, one phrase caught my attention. “If you want to make a million dollars, give the world a million dollars worth of value!” As someone who wants success but resists financial details, I remember feeling a sudden shift of energy. The proverbial “lightbulb” went off….”I CAN DO THAT! I’LL OFFER THE WORLD A MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF VALUE!” And I did.
A few years later, I tallied up the corporate and individual contracts I had fulfilled and realized that, in fact, I had generated a million dollars. Mind you, I did not set out with goals and objectives to create that financial target. I simply decided to go full throttle and focus on offering my full value, including sharing ideas every chance I got and following up on every opportunity that came my way. That “all in” attitude kept my focus narrow and my energy high. I did NOT focus on the money; yet it flowed easily. I focused on sharing what I do best, and I remember feeling very blessed; even “magnetic”. I seemed to just attract all the opportunities I needed to realize my intention of offering the world a million dollars worth of value.
Looking back on that time, I know exactly why that happened. As a coach, I know that it’s actually an equation. You attract to you that which matches your dominant intention. The exhilaration I felt by consistently offering the best of myself in service to others attracted the best from the world. By focusing on offering value, I was offered value in return (i.e. money). We can all do that, as long as we’re clear about our dominant intention, and we don’t “muddy” our signal. We must focus narrowly in order to protect our precious energy and offer the world a clear signal. So, if your 2016 didn’t take you where you wanted, I understand. (I spent much of 2016 trying new things and “scattering” my signal!) Join me. Dust yourself off and commit to making 2017 a year you’ll feel good about.
